 CHAIRMAN LEMAN brings up HJR 63 (U.N. MEMBERSHIP REPUBLIC OF                  
 CHINA/TAIWAN) as the first order of business before the Senate                
 State Affairs Committee.  The chairman calls Representative Vezey             
 to testify.

 REPRESENTATIVE VEZEY, Chairman, House State Affairs Committee,                
 sponsor of HJR 63, states passing HJR 63 is the right thing to do.            
 Chairman Vezey gives the committee reasons for passing HJR 63, as             
 listed in the information in the member's bill files.  Chairman               
 Vezey states Taiwan is Alaska's fifth largest trading partner.  No            
 other nation of this status is not a member of the U.N.  It would             
 certainly be in Alaska's interest to promote Taiwan's diplomatic              
 recognition.                                                                  
                                                                               
 CHAIRMAN LEMAN asks if there are any questions and if anyone else
